EAPOSYS at World Geothermal Congress

From the CGIA booth to Canada’s first Deep Geothermal Roadmap and the WING stage, WGC2026 brought EAPOSYS into the heart of the international geothermal community.

A week at the heart of the geothermal community

EAPOSYS joined more than 2,000 participants from 73 countries at the World Geothermal Congress 2026 in Calgary, a week bringing together the global geothermal community across technology, research, policy, finance and project development.

Our team – Naomi Vouillamoz, Stephanie Vetsch, Sergio Leal and Kim Pfeifer – was present at Booth 209 as part of the Canadian Geothermal Industry Alliance (CGIA). More than simply an exhibition space, the booth provided a home base for conversations with Canadian and international industry leaders, researchers and potential partners around EAPOSYS’ closed-loop AGS approach and opportunities for geothermal deployment in Canada.

Looking at Geothermal Wider System Benefits

Naomi contributed to the Theory of Change Workshop, organized by the IEA Geothermal Taskforce on Wider System Benefits. The workshop explored how geothermal can create value beyond the direct production of heat and electricity, and how these wider benefits can be better understood and articulated.

Naomi brought EAPOSYS’ perspective on Energy Return on Energy Invested (EROI), energy feedback and the role of the mining industry in the energy transition, contributing to a broader Theory of Change for geothermal that connects technology deployment with resilient energy systems and wider societal benefits. Exploring the frontier of Superhot Rock

Stephanie contributed to the technical program by moderating the closing Superhot Rock panel, bringing together perspectives on one of geothermal’s most ambitious emerging frontiers.

She also represented CGIA during the Congress, including in international exchanges around geothermal development, reinforcing the links between EAPOSYS and the growing Canadian geothermal ecosystem.

Contributing to Canada’s Deep Geothermal Roadmap

The week concluded with another important step for geothermal in Canada: the kickoff of the Canadian Deep Geothermal Roadmap.

EAPOSYS participated alongside other members of the Canadian geothermal ecosystem in beginning the work toward a shared roadmap for deep geothermal development. The initiative, supported by CAD 468,000 in federal funding, will examine the technological, policy, financing and ecosystem conditions needed to accelerate the sector over the coming 18 months.

For EAPOSYS, participation in the roadmap naturally extends our engagement through CGIA and our growing activities in Canada: contributing not only our AGS technology, but also to the broader conditions needed for deep geothermal to develop at scale.

An unforgettable evening at WING: it is all about people

Geothermal took the stage — the Women in Geothermal (WING) Battle of the Bands brought the community together for an evening where presentations, technical discussions and business meetings gave way to music, creativity and a great deal of geothermal energy.

EAPOSYS was well represented on stage, with Stephanie performing asSnoWhyte” for a fantastic geothermal rendition of It’s Getting Hot in Here, rewritten with geothermal lyrics and delivered as a huge performance on the stage of Calgary’s Palace Theatre. It was an unforgettable celebration of the personalities, creativity and energy behind the geothermal community.

Beyond the fun, the evening was a reminder of something easy to forget when working on complex technologies and infrastructure: in the end, it is all about people. The relationships, trust and shared enthusiasm built across this community are as important to moving geothermal forward as the technology itself.

WGC2026 left us with new ideas, new connections and an even stronger sense of belonging to a global community committed to unlocking the Earth’s heat.
